The Daily Pond newspaper front page: The Assassination of the President — Lincoln Duck slain after midnight rally, the Pond enters a new and uncertain era

ANNOUNCEMENT

Today, our nation mourns the death of President Lincoln, who was assassinated in a deliberate act of political violence.

President Lincoln devoted his life to the service of the Pond and its people. His death is a profound national tragedy—one that has shaken every community, every institution, and every citizen across our twelve states.

We recognize the fear, anger, and uncertainty now spreading throughout the nation. In this moment of unrest, we urge every citizen to remain calm, reject violence. Those responsible for this crime will be pursued and brought to justice under the law.

In accordance with the Constitution, the forthcoming presidential election will proceed. The voice of the people will not be silenced by violence.

This is a dark hour for the Pond. But our democracy is greater than any single act of hatred, and our nation will not surrender its future to fear.

We will mourn together. We will remain united. And we will move forward together.

PRESIDENTS FROM THE POND

Framed portrait of Obama Duck

Obama Duck

Silver-tongued and impossibly composed, he could talk a pond riot back into a nap with a single measured paragraph. Governed on hope, teleprompters, and the firm belief that any crisis shrinks if you nod at it thoughtfully enough.

Framed portrait of Trump Duck

Ran the pond like a waterfront resort and never met a rally he could not stretch to three hours. Every reed he signed was 'the best policy anyone has ever seen,' and the crowds, he assured the flock, were the largest in migratory history.

Framed portrait of Biden Duck

Biden Duck

The elder statesduck of the flock, fond of long stories that begin in one decade and land quietly in another. Leads with a firm handshake, aviator confidence, and the occasional heroic struggle against a flight of stairs.

Wingston Mallardton

The pond's first president and author of the original Nest Constitution. Turned down a crown, invented the peaceful transfer of pond power, and insisted every duck receive one vote and at least one lily pad to stand on.

Sterling Drake

A smooth operator from the golden age of pond television. Balanced the reed budget, shook wings with rival flocks, and delivered every address with the calm of a duck who has genuinely never been startled.

Beau Pompadrake

Young, charismatic, and photogenic to a fault. Promised to put a duck on the moon mostly so the campaign posters would look spectacular, then somehow convinced the entire pond it had already happened.
